CARAVAN 2016 – ‘The Key’ Art Exhibition Opening in New York City
CARAVAN’s 2016 initiative The Key: A Travelling Visual Arts Exhibition continues to tour the world after it’s debut in Cairo and London earlier this year. ‘The Key’ has now opened in Riverside Church in New York City on September 21st, commemorating the UN International Day of Peace during the UN General Assembly. Sponsored by SODIC for the 3rd consecutive year and co-curated by Rev. Paul-Gordon Chandler and Dr. Reda Abdel Rahman, the exhibition features the work of 40 premier visual artists with modern three-dimensional fiberglass portrayals of the world’s most ancient symbol of harmony the Key of Life, also known as the Ankh that originated in Egypt.
Attendees included His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Farouk, Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in New York, Rev. Dr. Amy Butler, Senior Minister of The Riverside Church and Her Excellency Ambassador Michelle Gavin, Managing Director of The Africa Centre among others. The evening was concluded with a special musical performance by Sufi musician Amir Vahab & Ensemble. The exhibition will run until November 6th.
A percentage of the proceeds will be directed to Educate Me, an initiative supporting the education of underprivileged children in Egypt.
